    U.S. historical events that occurred on April 26:

    1607: English colonists, including John Smith, come ashore in what is present day Virginia to establish the first permanent English settlement in the Western Hemisphere.



  • April 26

    April 26, 1913: A new state flag was officially approved by the state Legislature. The dark blue silk flag featured the state coat of arms embroidered on both sides. The design remained unchanged until 1979.
