Professional Experience:

UW-Madison School of Library and Information Studies, 2009. Adjunct Instructor
  • Taught graduate-level course, "Corporate and Specialized Information Services"
  • Topics included management, core competencies, reference, research, knowledge management, technology and marketing in corporate or specialized information settings
  • Wisconsin State Journal/The Capital Times, 1978-2008. Library Director
  • Managed an archive consisting of nearly 500,000 images and two-million articles
  • Developed and provided training programs in the use of online services, Internet and database use to over 100 journalists
  • Negotiated license agreements with online vendors, creating solid, on-going relationships
  • Project and team leader in the selection and installation of a text archive and image archive resulting in a library resource offering efficient retrieval of information to both newsrooms
  • Supervised a staff of three and responsible for the library’s annual planning and budget
  • Created a newsroom-wide intranet available to 52 Lee newspapers around the country
  • Assisted journalists with various requests, ranging from quick-reference to technical
  • Developed guidelines, policies and procedures for the library’s operations
  • Developed an online Web resource (wiki) for use by all journalists at Lee newspapers
  • Negotiated rights and fees for copyright permission for commercial use of newspapers’ photographs
